Finally finished the nut sorter, demo and report! Final report started at 2pm yesterday and had to rush around to get it printed by 5pm. I think we pulled it a little too close this time…
This is our final design. For the demo we sorted all the nuts correctly but the toonie slipped through and fell into a cup. Our total sorting time was 39 seconds.
Other shots from the day of the demo. The fastest sorting time was just under 8 sec, impressive!
Alright, time to get some sleep.

2 Days left for our automatic nut sorter design project!
For the past 2 weeks we have taken over the student machine shop and there has been a continuous line-up to get in.
| The lab on a typical day |
Our nut sorter at 5am – debugging the jittery stepper motor |
Steve and Yassir were the mechanical leads for our project |
We all lose it at one point or another….like posing in front of other people’s machines or trying to be cheerful.
Of course, while waiting in line for the machine shop we are all busily copying missing notes from the morning classes.
Some more photos from reading week. Was walking around with Horace, you can still see the warm Californian sun on his face!
There was a massive fire along Queen St and several buildings were completely devastated.
We went to visit Justin’s newborn baby, it is magical to see life being created. Must be a very exciting time for Justin and Onika.
If you are interested in more baby pictures, you can find them

Our 3B Design Project, a mechatronics nut sorter, is due in 2 weeks! Our class has taken over the machine shop. I will post more updates on that after the competition.
