First Roll with Yashica Mat-124G

November 25, 2008

The Yashica Mat-124G is a 6×6 Medium Format twin lens reflex. This is the first roll using this camera, I had to use another camera as a make-shift light meter and all the shots were handheld.

In terms of operation it is quite different from the typical modern cameras due to the waist level viewer and adjustment knobs. I am pretty happy with the results and the square format is quite different and fun experience.

First Snow of 2008

November 18, 2008

It is always so quiet and peaceful after snowfall. The blanket of snow give everything a new surface.

Lester Street. I predict in a few years all these houses would be torn down and be replaced by high-rise apartments.

Some interesting images while walking around.

With 2 weeks of classes left before finals, the sports teams also concluded their seasons. All of our teams got into playoff and it was a great season.

Our 4A soccer team photo, too bad a portion of the people couldn’t make it due to labs and such.

Here are some ‘interesting’ outtakes while I was setting up!

Lights and Colors

November 11, 2008

Recently I have been playing with the Lensbaby 2.0 PK mount. It is the poor man’s tilt-shift, those who have a job buys the real tilt-shift: The Hartblei Super-Rotator. The good thing with the lens is I don’t mind experimenting with it, in this case I shoved in a home made square aperature which produce quite a nice effect.

It is frustrating to try and get a sharp shot, but many of the times I don’t find it necessary. The blur effect combined with the vibrant colors gives it different feel.

I have been pretty busy with the 4th year project so my group members often became my test subjects.

The DOF is very shallow at wide open, with the distortion it is very tough to focus accurately.

For the past week I have been working with AJung on the for my AI project, Wumpus World, a 10×10 ‘cave’ where the computer player tries to find gold while avoiding pits or the Wumpus by .

Yet Another Season

November 3, 2008

The last batch of leaves lingering on the trees.

This was taken during the Thanksgiving weekend. Perfect weather!

This year we traded in our 12yrs old Volvo 850 for the Subaru Outback. The new car is quieter, smoother, too bad it doesn’t come with a tape deck…
