JENGA and 31mm Ltd

February 26, 2009

Sometimes the good old simple traditional boardgames are the most fun. I dug up my 15yr-old Jenga set (it even has chinese writings on the box!) and we just had to duke it out!
I decided to use the FA31mm F1.8AL Ltd on the K10D. This legend is known for its buttery smooth rendering, rich colors, and reasonably sharp wide ope, making it a great lens for low-light conditions.

Left: Kathy gets very excited about the game, screaming and wincing at every move.
Right: I tried to over-power a stubborn piece but failed miserably.

Elton and his infamous ‘flick’. I think that’s what I need to conquer the stubborn pieces.

Scarlette pondering about the next move in the shaky tower. I think we purposely twisted the base just to made it harder for her.

Snowboarding at Blue

February 20, 2009

Reading week for the poor Engineering students! However, my school just loves to put midterms right after the break to keep us on our toes. Well I had to get my ‘fix’ of snowboarding for the season. We went to Blue Mountain, a great view over the Georgian Bay area.

Weather wise it was -1DegC (a little warm), shallow layer of powder but icy at some slopes.

Pouyan’s ski mask reminded me of the Arctic Avengers from CS!

I love ski-lifts, they are so relaxing and you can see so much from up top.

A collision between Pouyan and Justin! Skiers have the most spectacular wipe outs with their gear scattered all over the hill.

We did almost 12hrs of ski/snowboarding and totaled about 40-50 runs. We were really tired on the way back…

Yashica, Round 2

February 12, 2009

The Yashica Mat-124G is back. This time with a bit of everything, still learning all the buttons and knobs.

St.Jacob Farmer’s Market, I learned about the local Shrine club from these gentlemen.

Toques and gloves for the winter. I had intended to focus on the man but he was moving too much for my fingers.

Pizza Nova, our Sunday one-stop with 3 mediums pizzas for $15!

Funny graffiti on the fire hydrant. I feel like that when I have 8:30am class and have to trek through the snow.

A neat display outside of a shop in Unionville.

Another perspective of the fiddler. I think we took a shot of it from all the Medium Format cameras and see how differently they all turn out. Mamiya C330 and Pentax 645.

A spontaneous snapshot of a fastfood stand. I am a big fan of the checkered table cloth.

Gustav Bakos Observatory

February 5, 2009

Many students come and go without knowing that University of Waterloo has an observatory that is located above the Physics building.

This Wednesday I participated in the monthly public tour and it was a clear night to see the Orion Nebula. Even though it was it was -20degC, there was quite a big crowd to learn a bit about astronomy and look through the telescope. It was a very neat feeling to be standing in the red glow staring into the dark skies.
