Snowshoeing up Gray Peak

3-day, 2-night snowshoeing trip with Ludwik & Ryan at Adirondacks State Park- aimed to summit Mt.Marcy.

Ryan picked me up at 4am and we got to Tupper Lake, NY by 10:30am. Approaching the park from the west side, started off from the Upper Works parking lot.

We were lucky that 2 snowstorms had hit the region that covered everything with 1-foot of fresh powder.

Covered 6 miles in 3.5hrs and got to site Nos 1 before it got dark.

Setting up the camp and cooking a hot meal.

The next morning, we had to carry our packs to Uphill lean-to, then take a day pack to attempt the summit.

It was a continual uphill battle, it was early afternoon when we got to a fork in the trail and instead attempted Gray Peak instead of Marcy for time consideration.

At the Gray Peak summit!

Back at camp, we didn’t find a stream that night so we had to melt snow to boil water, used up a lot of fuel.

Waking up in our cocoons, the weather has been fair but temperature has been dropping slightly.

Due to possible fuel shortage, we decided to exit the park 1 day early, so we pack our bags and hiked 8 miles back to the parking lot.

Stopped for dinner at Big Tupper Brewing, great food (esp the burgers) before we parted ways. Until next year!
