Hong Kong – Street Photography

August 19, 2011

Hong Kong can offer such interesting street photography subjects. The scenery and architecture can change drastically over a few blocks.

LBA: K-5 & DA WR 18-135mm

June 22, 2011

Oh no, I caved in and got the Pentax K-5 & the SMC Pentax-DA 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 ED AL [IF] DC WR combo.

The 18-135mm is really fast at focusing while being fairly compact, I think this will replace my 18-250mm my walk-around lens. Photo taken on Ping Chau over the weekend.

The live view functions are pretty fast and convenient. ISO800 with 31mm at F/2.0.

ISO3200 with 31mm. Pretty darn impressive and I was able to pull off some decent portraits inside the dim restaurant setting.

For those interested in some comparisons, see how the Pentax K-5 stack up against the Canon 7D.

Obligatory ISO12,800 shot, handheld at 160mm, 1/30s, F/5.6.

A crop of the above image. Still a lot of details!

Leaving Hong Kong today, see you on the other side!

Tai Po Market (大埔舊墟), Hong Kong

October 18, 2010

Recently got around to scanning the Yashica Mat-124G negatives taken during Chinese New Year in Hong Kong.

Even with the instant feedback and convenience of digital systems, it is another beast altogether to use the light-meter, set all the dials, cock the shutter, and focus on the subject.

I ventured out to Tai Po Market one Sunday just to wander around the local parks and markets.

The elderly looking after their grandchildren.

Others playing ‘bone’ cards, a traditional Chinese card game.

Convenience store in the midst of government housing.

Roasted chestnuts are great in the cold weather!

A lot of people were buying groceries for New Years family gatherings.

Window. Music. No food

August 22, 2010

Flying is highly dependent on personal preferences, each person have adopted to a certain set of guidelines and tries to stick to it. Some prefer the isle seats to easily move around, some prefer the center for least turbulence, while some prefer the window seats for the view and a place to lean.
I personally go by window seats; music with earbuds; and no food.

The commotions and rumbling metropolitan engulfed by nimbus clouds.

It is a matter of luck which side gets the view of the city and interesting cloud formations.

Cruising at 33,000ft.

Toronto from above, with the flat and grid-like layout. Quite a contrast against the Hong Kong skyline surrounding the shoreline.

Staring down Yonge Street. Almost home.
