Dog Sledding in Collingwood

January 12, 2012

With Brian as our guide, Terry, Carmen and I ventured off to a day of adventures in Collingwood, about 2hrs North of Toronto.

Meeting bright and early, we made good progress in Brian’s modified Jeep Cherokee.

There was fresh snow the night before and the jeep feels extremely stable in the snow.

Off-roading in some small back roads. At one point we ran over a patch of ice and the jeep was sliding back down!

This is Doug, the owner of Rob Roy Farm.

At the farm they have dog sledding programs in the winter. The beautiful dogs sleeps outside in their own kennel.

A barn used for storage in the winter. Some really cool collection of stuff accumulated over the years.

We were very fortunate there was fresh snow and Doug happen to setup the teams for training so we stayed for some dog sledding!

Even though it is a pretty short track, it is amazing how much power the dogs can muster.

And we get to feed donkeys too!

Snowplate 2011 – Swashbuckling Golasz Chefs

March 8, 2011

Mom: Where are you going?
Me: Sudbury (3.5hr north of Toronto)
Mom: What are you doing there?
Me: Frisbee…outdoors, with snow.

And that is what I did in the past weekend. Meeting up with teams from all over Ontario in 1ft of snow chasing a Frisbee. But it was fun!

We were the Swashbuckling Golasz Chefs, a merger between pirates and goulash chefs.

Saturday 8:30AM, getting ready. Everyone putting on triple layers and snowpants.

Hung showing off his (patent pending) double-walled plastic bag with dress shoes crampons.

It was snowing heavily, providing a constant supply of fresh powder to dive on.

Kevin show us how it is done, leaps out behind the defender to score a point.

Jumping into knee-deep snow to find the disc.

Snowplate humus & bagel lunch!

“Would you like to walk the plank…please?”

Ludwik laying out to save the disc!

“YYYARRRRRR”

I accumulated various items over the weekend, like a pirate cape and bunny hats.

Damian catching some air!

Our trophy and spirit prizes!

Relaxing on the sidelines after!

We played a total of 6 games and ended with a 3-3 record. It was so much fun and full of spirit, until next year!

Winter Wonderland

March 3, 2011

Waking up on Sunday the entire view was covered by a fresh layer of snow resting on any surface.

The stillness in the air and cool air was very refreshing.

Rain or shine, the Tai Chi students join in their morning exercies.

Cottage Weekend!

August 8, 2010

Jenn was very kind to invite us high school friends to her cottage over the long weekend!

View from the living room.

Breakfasts consist of french toast, scrambled eggs, hash brown, bacon, and fried bananas!

The entire group crammed onto the row boat for the group photo. :)

Walking over to a nearby resort for some Frisbee and ice cream.

Project of the week: BBQ Turtle. The girls have never seen the boys so focused before.

Jerry showing off his skillful weaving of bacon shell.

We dropped them off at the grill. With 17 layers of meat we had to turn down the fire….

However, the bacon lit all the coals on fire and the neighbors came knocking telling us the grill was on fire! FAIL.

Early celebration for Andrea’s birthday, this time with a control burn.

In the afternoon we took the boats out to the lake.

Jenn was cruising around in her surfboard.

Scarlette was the expert at catching sun fish.

Amazing! Andrea scored this giant bass, it was pretty intense reeling it in. We released it afterward.

Pot Roast and vegetables….yup more food.

Camp fire and s’morse. Yum!
